Our works are created via the pate de verre casting process by Anna Boothe, a sculptor who’s been working with glass for 35+ years.

Pate de Verity is a pun on “pate de verre” which refers to a glass casting technique coined in late 19th C. France which is denoted by the selective placement of colored glass particles into mold recesses, that when melted in a kiln result in a translucent glass form.

PROCESS

All of the work at Pate de Verity is individually created; most objects are one-of-a-kind. Each piece, as well as each element in multi-segmented works, is formed using the lost-wax casting process, a technique most commonly employed to cast metal.

In brief, this lengthy process encompasses numerous steps: 1) A form is carved from wax; 2) A plaster-based material is poured over the wax to create a mold; 3) The wax is steamed out of the mold; 4) The resulting mold cavity is filled with crushed glass, which is melted in a kiln and cooled slowly; 5) The mold is removed from the cast glass form and discarded. 6) The glass piece is cut, ground and polished, and for more complex works is assembled with additional parts separately cast in the same manner to realize the final sculpture.
